Dog Attacks on Postmen and Women

In the last year, there has been a rise in the number of dog attacks on postmen and women. This issue is not a new one, yet it is vital to raise awareness to dog owners to do more and protect their postmen and women.

This week, the Royal Mail issued a set of guidelines for pet owners across the country. In the last year alone, Royal Mail has reported 2,484 dog attacks on postal workers. Some of these injuries can be debilitating and life-changing. That’s why they are asking all dog owners to take note of their guidelines.

Whilst most dogs are calm and happy with a quiet temperament, it is never clear when a dog can feel threatened by a person approaching their territory. That’s why it’s important for all dog owners to be aware of these guidelines. It is also in the interest of the owner, as some attacks, unfortunately, end in prosecution.

Parcel Drop Boxes Against Dog Attacks

There are simple things you can do at home, such as feeding your dog and locking them away for 10 minutes to prevent attacks. However, what happens when your postie arrives while you’re not in? We recognise that it isn’t feasible to constantly be on watch for your postman or woman to arrive and be ready with food to distract your dog.

A parcel drop box could be the answer to that. If you’re a dog owner, it’s best to get your Smart Parcel Box installed at the end of your driveway away from your front door. This will protect your postal worker as they won’t have to come to the front door and risk their fingers when posting your mail.

By placing a Smart Parcel Box at the end of your driveway, you’ll also help your dog to feel more relaxed and calm, and they won’t feel threatened or excited at the sound of post dropping through the letter box.

We spoke to one of our customers who found that the noise of post dropping through the letterbox caused her dog a lot of stress and anxiety, and was impossible to calm down after the post man had left:

Having the postman deliver letters and parcels at the end of our drive is great. It means that we don’t have to deal with constant barking after the postman’s been, and we can easily go and get our parcels without having to restrain our German Shepherd at the door.

It’s also great for dogs who tend to shred whatever gets posted through your door, as one reviewer from Amazon was relieved to point out:
