How was the Smart Parcel Box born?
In the autumn of 2014, Vikram Avasthi, the founder of Homescapes, envisioned the Smart Parcel Box, inspired by his own frustrations and those voiced by his customers over missing or failed deliveries. At the time, Homescapes was dispatching thousands of parcels every week, and the need for a reliable final mile delivery solution was clear.
The founding idea for the Smart Parcel Box emerged from a necessity to innovate, as no viable solutions existed. This led to the birth of a product designed to address these delivery challenges directly.
Key considerations in the design of the Smart Parcel Box included:
- Safety: The box needed to be robust, tamper-resistant, and able to be securely mounted on either the floor or the wall.
- Ease of Use: It was important that couriers could easily locate and operate the box.
- Proof of Delivery: To ensure accountability, the box was equipped with a unique barcode and a registration mechanism.
- Capacity: The design had to accommodate multiple parcels securely, incorporating an anti-fishing mechanism to prevent unauthorised access.
- Weather Resistance: Crafted to withstand the British elements, the box features a galvanised, weather-proof coating that is also water-resistant.

Summer 2015
Smart Parcel Box created
The original Smart Parcel Box is created. The largest parcel box available, easy to use, the box features a scannable proof of delivery barcode, secure anti-fishing mechanism and can receive multiple parcels over one day.
Spring 2016
Medium box launched
With the success of the large and extra-large boxes, the medium Smart Parcel Box was created. A smaller size, secure, wall mounted post box – perfect for apartments and smaller homes.
Winter 2016
SPB launched in Europe
After repeated enquiries from mainland Europe customers smartparcelbox.fr and smartparcelbox.de were created. Smart Parcel Box was now being shipped across Europe to over 20+ countries.
Spring 2017
Double door launched
After listening to our customers, we noticed a growing trend of boxes being installed within walls and entranceways. Our parcel boxes were redesigned to provide retrieval doors both in front and rear.
Summer 2017
New vibrant colours introduced
Smart Parcel Boxes now available in seven colours in medium and four colours for the large and extra large models giving a fantastic choice to customers.
Spring 2019
New, larger warehouse opens
With an increase in number of designs and growing customer demand, in early 2019 we acquired an exclusive Smart Parcel Box warehouse and distribution centre.
Summer 2019
SPB featured on BBC
The medium Smart Parcel Box was featured on BBC One’s “Best House In Town” installed in a smart, high-tech Leicestershire home.
Autumn 2019
New modern designs launched
The range is strengthened with the launch of the curved top and slanted top models increasing the selection and making the widest range of parcel delivery boxes available.
