5 Top Tips for Receiving your Parcels Safely

When something as innovative as a Smart Parcel Box comes along, it raises questions. We understand that, of those questions, safety will be first on your mind. That’s why we’re here to give you 5 top tips on keeping all of your mail secure and safe.

Don’t have one yet? Then this blog is still for you. Read up, reassure yourself, and then shop our collection of colourful boxes when you’re done.

Top Tips Number 1: Leaving Directions

This may seem like an obvious one, but it is important to leave directions for all of your couriers. This helps to ensure they use your Smart Parcel Box. Not all couriers or postal workers may have seen this type of box before, so it is important to be clear when giving delivery instructions.

You can find a written template for use below, which can be put in the delivery instructions box. Just fill in the location of your box, and you’ll be good to go.

“Please use the Parcel Box located _____________. This is my designated safe place, and you have my full permission to deliver there.”

If a signature or proof of delivery is required, use this extended version instead:

“Please use the Parcel Box located _____________. This is my designated safe place, and you have my full permission to deliver there. A unique barcode can be scanned for proof of delivery by lifting the box lid. This will also act as my signature.”

We’ve also seen some innovative work with waterproof stickers being used to leave directions on the actual box. This can be as simple as “Lift lid to deliver”, or even house numbers and names.

Top Tips Number 2: The Elements and More

Medium Smart Parcel Box

All of our parcel drop letter boxes have been made out of galvanised steel and coated with rust-resistant powder. However, we still recommend placing a box in a sheltered spot. Not only will this stop the box from being constantly hit with the ever-changing UK weather pattern, but it will keep your box out of the eye line of passing strangers.

Even though our anti-fishing bar keeps your parcel safe, the last thing you want is dents or damage to your box from attempted access.

Top Tips Number 3: Cushion the Fall

One of the biggest questions we see on social media is to do with the safety of fragile items when being placed into the box. All of our Large and Extra Large boxes come with a free cushion. This is placed on the inside of the box to cushion the fall of any parcels, and keep them as safe as possible.

If you’re using a medium Smart Parcel Box though, there’s nothing to say you can’t put your own little cushion inside! While this may take up some of your parcel space, it means that you have some extra reassurance and peace of mind.

#4: Keep Your Eye on the Keys

We know it’s tempting with 3 keys – to keep one outside in a safe place. However, when it comes to any kind of key, we recommend you don’t do that. All it takes is one person to see your key hiding place to have a lifetime of access to your mail, parcels and more. You can read more about the dangers of mail and identity theft on our blog.

We do recommend giving these keys to trusted household members, so only authorised parties have access to the parcel box and its contents.

#5: Routine Emptying

To avoid damage to your parcels, we recommend emptying your parcel box daily, or as needed. Leaving it a few days till your parcel box is completely full is likely to cause unnecessary damage to the contents. It may result in a missed delivery if there isn’t enough room to make all of your scheduled deliveries.

✨ A special thanks to all the customers who have submitted amazing images of their parcel boxes to us. We loved them!
